The FCAI, the leading association of the Australian automotive industry, today released sales figures for motorcycles and off-highway vehicles (OHV) for 2021. <\/p>\n
A total of 123,530 motorcycles and OHVs were sold in 2021. This corresponds to an increase of 13.4 percent compared to 2020. <\/p>\n
With 53,118 units sold in 2021, off-road motorcycles made up 43 percent of total sales. That is 18.8 percent more than in 2020.<\/p>\n
Street bikes were the second most popular segment with 37,270 units sold. This corresponds to an increase of 6.8 percent compared to 2020 and accounts for 30.17 percent of all units sold in 2021. <\/p>\n
The OHV market segment recorded a growth of 13.9 percent compared to the figures for 2020. This corresponds to a total of 28,321 units sold, which corresponds to 22.92 percent of the total market. <\/p>\n
With 4,821 new vehicles sold, scooters account for the smallest market share. This corresponds to 3.90 percent of the total market and corresponds to an increase in sales of 8.1 percent in 2020. <\/p>\n
FCAI Managing Director Tony Weber said the new motorcycle, scooter and OHV market in Australia remains positive amid pandemic restrictions that restrict access to showrooms. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe pandemic has left consumers with less access to showrooms. Even so, all sectors of the motorcycle and OHV market saw growth in 2021. This shows the quality of the products that manufacturers send to Australia, \u201dWeber said.<\/p>\n
The FCAI urges governments to take note of the large off-road motorcycle sector which is a widespread form of recreation. <\/p>\n
“More and more Australians are using off-road motorcycles to increase their physical fitness, for psychological well-being and to experience the Australian bush.”<\/p>\n
“It is important for politicians at all levels to be aware of this and to provide appropriate land for it,” said Weber. <\/p>\n
Since traffic jams are a constant problem for all capitals and major centers in Australia, street motorcycles and scooters should be seen as an aid to relieve the Australian traffic systems. <\/p>\n
\u201cTransport is a big issue across Australia. Getting more commuters on motorcycles and scooters will help reduce traffic jams and increase traffic flow. “<\/p>\n
