Alpinestars is offering three new airbag systems for drivers this year, and the Tech-Air 5 is back. All four airbag systems operate autonomously and are inflated when the embedded electronics detect, based on information from gyroscopes and accelerometers, that the driver has fallen. The computer sends the message to the airbag that the driver is wearing to inflate and cushion the fall. Let’s see what the 2022 Alpine stars<\/a> Tech-Air has lineup for us this year.<\/p>\n Alpinestars Tech-Air 10<\/strong><\/p>\n This technology comes from MotoGP where the speeds and risks are high. In contrast to previous airbags, which protect the body up to the hips, the Alpinestars Tech-Air 10 extends the coverage around the rider’s hips. It’s a suit that goes from just above the knees to the neck and down to the wrists. The Tech-Air 10 is compatible with all Alpinestars Tech-Air Ready suits as well as other brands that have a clearance of 1.6 inches around the rider’s chest and 0.8 inches around the rider’s hips – the space is needed about inflating the airbag.<\/p>\n Alpinestars Tech-Air 3<\/strong><\/p>\n Alpinestars brings airbag technology to commuters and city dwellers with the new Tech-Air 3 over jacket. Previous airbags fit under the jacket and needed space to deploy when needed. The design above the jacket is easy on and off and is designed to be folded up and quickly stowed in a backpack, pannier or under the seat of a scooter. The Alpinestars Tech-Air 3 is vest-like, without sleeves, so it is limited to protecting the rider’s upper body. The Tech-Air 3 is available in a men’s and a women’s cut.<\/p>\n Alpinestars Tech-Air Off-Road V2<\/strong><\/p>\n Details are sparse in the new Tech-Air Off-Road V2. Based on the safety equipment worn by Dakar Rally participants, it allows extreme changes in body position on a dirt bike without accidentally inflating it. We’ll know more when it comes out later in 2022.<\/p>\n Alpinestars Tech-Air 5<\/strong><\/p>\n This returning airbag is for sportbike riders who want extra protection for their back and shoulders. The driver puts on the Alpinestars Tech-Air 5 separately from the jacket. Just like the Tech-Air 10, the jacket needs to be roomy enough to allow 1.6 expansion space around the rider’s entire chest – every Alpinestars Tech-Air Ready jacket does the job. According to Alpinestars, independent tests confirm that the airbag offers the same level of protection as 18 back protectors of CE level 1.
