The Triumph Tiger 1200 is completely new this year and is available in five different flavors. Three are in the on-road GT space and two are worthy of the nickname rally because they focus on off-road performance. We’re delving into the 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 rally, which consists of the Pro and Explorer models. There’s a lot to talk about, so find a comfortable chair.<\/p>\n

  1. The new Tiger 1200 has a wide range of new drive components. <\/strong>The displacement is reduced by 55 cc by shortening the stroke by 10.7 mm and widening the bore by 5.0 mm. The cylinder head, crankshaft, gearbox, clutch, drive shaft and angular gearbox are new. There is also a new muffler. Without going into details, a Triumph insider told us: “All in all, every single component has been designed to be significantly lighter and more compact, which gives the new engine a much tighter overall package and changes the driving dynamics.”<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    1. Despite the displacement reduction, the Inline-3 gets more horsepower and torque, and Triumph claims the 2022 Tiger 1200 is the most powerful shaft-driven ADV motorcycle on the market. <\/strong>The new Tiger puts out 147 horsepower at 9,000 rpm (up to eight horses) and 95 ft-lbs of torque at 7,000 rpm (five more pound-feet).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      1. The Triple has a T-plane crankshaft with an uneven firing order for superior traction finding at low revs.<\/strong> The spark plugs ignite at 180, 270 and 270 degrees. This means that there is a short gap followed by two long gaps between fuel ignitions. Triumph claims a “twin feeling” at low engine speeds.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

The 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 rally series underlines its off-road legends with a 21\/18-inch wire-spoke rim pairing.<\/strong> However, the tubeless rims are sporty Metzeler<\/a> Karoo Street tires aren’t as off-road oriented as expected for the rally line. The Karoo Street is a further development of the Tourance Next Sport touring tire. The knobs with a large block are low, which favors the road performance. Serious off-roaders ride the optional Michelin<\/a> Anakee wild gum.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

The IMU-informed electronics package is modern through and through.<\/strong> The 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally models have five preset driving modes as well as one mode that can be customized by the driver. Of the Tiger 1200s, only the rally versions get the Off-Road Pro mode, which defeats traction control and ABS while also offering a dirt-friendly throttle. Traction control and ABS are cornering, while Hill Hold, cruise control, quickshifter, cornering lights and keyless operation (ignition, steering lock and fuel cap) are standard. The Rally Explorer receives radar for blind spot warnings and lane change assistants as well as tire pressure monitoring and seat heating.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            1. Brembo takes over the braking tasks with a little help. <\/strong>These are monoblock brake calipers of the Brembo Stylema M4.30 type for the 320 mm discs at the front, with a Magura HC1 radial pump master cylinder doing the business.\n

              1. A semi-active Showa chassis is integrated into the driving modes. <\/strong>The damper has an automatic spring preload adjustment. The bike path approaches 9 inches at both ends, which underlines the off-road capabilities of the Triumph Tiger 1200 rally series 2022.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

A 7-inch TFT screen in conjunction with a 5-way joystick control makes it easier for the driver to use the electronic functions. <\/strong>The switches are illuminated for easy operation after dark, and there is a USB charging port under the seat. The dashboard can be paired with a smartphone via Bluetooth and the My Triumph Connectivity System. A Triumph Sena helmet headset is optional and has Harman Kardon sound.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                  1. The Tiger 1200 went on a diet. <\/strong>Triumph claims a staggering 55 pound weight reduction from the previous generation. That will help the Tiger 1200 perform better on the sidewalk and dirt.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                    1. The new frame of the 1200 is lighter and has a bolted aluminum subframe. <\/strong>The swing arm is more robust and weighs less than last year.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                      1. The fuel tank is made of aluminum and the Rally Explorer’s tank holds an adventurous 7.9 gallons. <\/strong>Rally Pro drivers have to be content with a 5.2 gallon tank. Triumph does not yet have any consumption values, so we cannot calculate a possible range. The Rally Explorer gets tank protection bars.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                        1. 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 rally drivers can choose between a seat height of 4 or 35.2 inches.<\/strong> A lower accessory seat is also available.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

The handlebars of the rally models are wider than those of earlier Tiger 1200s. <\/strong>The width has been increased by more than three quarters of an inch to improve leverage in the field. The Rally Explorer’s handlebars are over half an inch higher than the Rally Pro’s. Hand protectors are standard.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

The most important option for touring riders are panniers, and Triumph offers two different luggage systems – the plastic Trekker and the aluminum Expedition.<\/strong> There is a top box in both the Trekker and Expedition styles, with the Trekker holding 52 liters and the Expedition 42 liters. Both systems were developed in collaboration with Givi. You will find that the Rally Explorer is adorned in the expedition luggage on the action photos.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

Triumph gives owners of the new Tiger 1200 Rally many baggage-free options to choose from.<\/strong> Other extras include a main stand, LED fog lights, LED scrolling indicators, a larger windshield, electronic anti-theft measures and armor to protect the engine and tanks.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

We have no prices for the Triumph Tiger 1200 rally series 2022. <\/strong>However, we can tell you that both the Rally Pro and Rally Explorer will be available in three colors – Snowdonia White, Sapphire Black and Matt Khaki.
