Portsmouth University<\/a> The graduate and social media influencer Vanessa Ruck, 35, was named best social media channel at the Motorbike TV Peoples’ Award for her YouTube video The Girl on a Bike and Most Inspirational Rider.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Vanessa won the title against social media giants like travel blogger Itchy Boots.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The business graduate was hit by a car while cycling in 2014 – that turned her world upside down and led to seven operations and a rollercoaster ride of mental and physical recovery.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

During her recovery, she discovered motorcycles and became known as “The Girl On A Bike”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She said of her awards: \u201cMotorcycles that I started riding after an accident have become my love and passion. If you’d asked me seven years ago if I drove off-road motorcycles and gave motivational speeches, I would probably have choked on my drink. But life takes us on some amazing journeys.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cPeople can relate to my story because everyone is going through bad times. We all have fights, some less visible than others, but with a positive attitude, determination, and a smile these fights can be a little easier. Hopefully, if I can recover after seven operations and move on, I will inspire others to show that others can get through their difficult times. ‘<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Given that Motorcycle TV’s Peoples Awards received a record 100,000 votes, Vanessa is an inspiration to women and men alike. \u201cI’m on a mission to prove to myself that I can still do it, and I hope this continues to encourage others to stand up and take life by the horns. We only have one life so let’s make the most of it, turn adversity into an opportunity to grow and make the most of it, \u201dshe said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Vanessa spends her time talking about her life, mostly around motorcycles, and does charity work by offering free workshops for teenagers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Vanessa studied international business administration in 2005 and graduated in 2009. After a 10-year marketing career, she brought her experience into building her own online brand as “The Girl On A Bike”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
