If you want to cover long distances in great comfort and explore the world on two wheels, then you have probably already noticed the BMW K 1600 series.<\/p>\n
The imposing tourer with a displacement of 1,649 cubic centimeters offers the pinnacle of luxurious travel on two wheels and is able to cover iron kilometers with absolute ease, even when loaded with luggage and a passenger.<\/p>\n
This silky smooth six-cylinder engine also offers enough power to put a big grin on your face after a day or two of toll road driving in the mountains.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/div>\nBecause of this, we were delighted that BMW updated its BMW K 1600 range before the new year and made a variety of changes aimed at improving the already crisp motorcycle.<\/p>\n
So without further ado, let’s take a look at what’s on offer.<\/p>\n
First look: 2022 BMW K 1600 series<\/h2>\n

The new series comprises four models, the K 1600 GT, K 1600 GTL, K 1600 B and K 1600 Grand America. The differences between the four lie in both the standard equipment and the body shape of the bike.<\/p>\n
The K 1600 GT and GTL are presented as the “sportier” of the two, ready for Alpine passes and tight hairpin turns, while the K1600 B and Grand America (pictured above) are inspired by American cruisers with a low excavator-style rear section.<\/p>\n
Both the GTL and the Grand America models are also equipped with top cases and backrests for pillion comfort and the BMW audio system, which make them ready to cruise long distances with the highest level of comfort.<\/p>\n
What’s new about the engine?<\/h2>\n

Under the fairings, the updates from BMW are present in all four models.<\/p>\n
Before the New Year, BMW updated its 1,649 cc six-cylinder engine to bring it in line with Euro 5 regulations while improving power and torque.<\/p>\n
The peak power is still 160 hp, like the previous model, but that comes at 6,750 rpm, 1,000 rpm earlier than before. The torque has also been increased by 5 Nm to 180 Nm at 5,250 rpm.<\/p>\n
On paper, these changes should make the K 1600 even more suitable for relaxed touring and easy driving. Big tourers aren’t sports bikes after all, so you don’t want to look for the red line to harness all that power, especially when loaded with the essentials for a long trip.<\/p>\n
All four models are also equipped with BMW’s Dynamic Electronic Suspension Adjustment, which works in the background to keep the bike well-sprung, no matter how difficult the riding conditions are or how loaded the bike is.<\/p>\n
Adaptive technology<\/h2>\n

Speaking of adaptive technology: a particularly fascinating feature that is standard on all motorcycles is the new adaptive headlights.<\/p>\n
When cornering, braking and accelerating, the LED headlight unit monitors the condition of the bike and swivels accordingly, looks into bends, tips up when braking to compensate for immersion, and tips down when accelerating to compensate for slight crouching.<\/p>\n
It may not be to everyone’s taste, but as an avowed fan of technology that makes bikes safer and easier to ride, I think it sounds like a useful feature. There is also a huge 10.25-inch TFT display that supports map navigation and phone connectivity.<\/p>\n
