Marshall of Dovenby Road, Clifton appeared before Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday (October 14).<\/p>\n
He pleaded guilty to causing serious injury through dangerous driving, drug driving, driving without a license and driving without insurance.<\/p>\n
A judge sentenced him to 16 months in prison and revoked his driving license for three years and eight months.<\/p>\n
After the conviction, PC Mark Davey of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, Nottinghamshire Police said, \u201cThis case should be a strong warning to anyone who believes they can recklessly ride an off-road bike on public roads and get away with it.<\/p>\n
\u201cNot only did the pedestrian end up in the hospital with serious injuries, but also the accused.<\/p>\n
\u201cMarshall, along with the rest of his group, completely disregarded other people that day and paid the price, first in the hospital and now in court.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hope this sentence sends a message that this type of antisocial behavior – and drug use – can be devastating and will not be tolerated.<\/p>\n
In fact, incidents like this are why Nottinghamshire Police are working so hard to seize off-road bikes that have been used in an antisocial way. Officials do not seize bicycles as spoilers, but to protect the public. “<\/p>\n
Last month police gave anti-social bikers a clear warning on off-road motorcycles when they went out on targeted patrols one day.<\/p>\n
Officers from the Force’s off-road bike team visited the Broxtowe area in response to local concerns about noisy and potentially dangerous riders.<\/p>\n
Team members, accomplished motorcyclists who volunteer for this role in addition to their daily chores, visited the Beeston Rylands Area, Attenborough Nature Reserve, Greenwood Community Center, The Sidings at Toton and Stapleford, Bramcote Woods and Toton Tram.<\/p>\n
Neighborhood police teams across the county also confiscated a number of illegal bicycles last year as part of a nationwide crackdown in hotspot areas.<\/p>\n
Inspector Karl Thomas from the City South Neighborhood Policing Team in charge of Clifton said, \u201cWe know that people who ride off-road bikes are a real concern in our communities. They are intimidating, noisy, tear up grassland and pose a threat.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are listening to these concerns and have responded by conducting a series of operations to combat the criminals that are continuing. We will confiscate their bikes and bring them to justice; it is not tolerated. “<\/p>\n
In addition to seizing bikes and prosecuting riders to address the issue, Nottinghamshire Police are encouraging off-road bikers to explore areas where they can legally enjoy their bikes.<\/p>\n
