Although motorcycles are now excluded from the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, this has not stopped production of the new 2022 Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak high performance ADV-based motorcycle. While the standard Multistrada V4 is ready for off-road use, the new Pikes Peak is pure road. Let’s find out what makes the mountaineer tick.<\/p>\n

  1. This is the third type of street-only motorcycle to use the Ducati V4 power unit. <\/strong>The Panigale V4 got the ball rolling, the Streetfighter V4 got the engine to the upright masses. The 2022 Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak uses the Granturismo version of the V4 – it powers all variants of the Multistrada V4 – which makes 170 hp at 10,500 rpm and a torque peak of 92 ft-lbs at 8750 rpm. It does this with a compression ratio of 14.0: 1 and the valves can travel 36,000 miles between lash tests. The exhaust gases are passed through an Akrapovi\u010d silencer made of titanium and carbon fiber.\"2022<\/a><\/li>\n
  2. The Race mode is making its debut on Pikes Peak.<\/strong> While not racing at Pikes Peak, you can get track-level performance. The race mode extends the limit stop of the rev limiter and prompts the driver to shift gear at the optimum speed. The Quickshifter is programmed to allow the most aggressive downshifts. The throttle response is also sharper compared to the High Power mode of the Multistrada V4. The rest of the Ducati electronics suite is geared towards sportier driving than the standard Multistrada V4 designed by ADV.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

The wheels make the Pikes Peak a pure street bike with long suspension travel.<\/strong> The use of 17 inch wheels on both ends with Pirelli<\/a> Diablo Rosso IV rubber tells you to stay out of the dirt. The black wheels are made of forged aluminum by Marchesini; the weight of the wheels is nearly six pounds less than the upscale Multistrada V4 S.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      1. The Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak 2022 is almost nine pounds lighter than the Multistrada V4 S. <\/strong>Various carbon fiber goodies will help save ounces.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

Ducati equipped the 2022 Pikes Peak with semi-active \u00d6hlins suspension at both ends. <\/strong>The semi-active chassis is equipped with the latest Smart EC 2.0 software, which can also be found on the Panigale V4 S and Streetfighter V4 S. According to Ducati, the software adapts to the driver’s driving style. The fork has the same 6.7-inch travel as the standard Multistrada V4, while the rear wheel has 0.4-inch less travel.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

Given the inevitable higher speeds on the road, Pikes Peak’s monocoque frame kicked the front a bit outward.<\/strong> The 25.75 degree lean angle on Pikes Peak is 1.25 degrees more than the standard Multistrada V4, and the path is lengthened 0.7 inches. The wheelbase is also stretched by 1.1 inches.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            1. Braking is derived from the Panigale V4. <\/strong>That means 330 mm front discs and Brembo Stylema brake calipers. The Multistrada V4 S gets its own pads, while the Pikes Peak uses the more aggressive Panigale V4 brake pads at the front.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              1. The ergonomics of the 2022 Pikes Peak are sportier than ADV. <\/strong>Compared to the standard Multistrada V4, the Pikes Peak’s footpegs are shifted up and back for more cornering freedom, and the handlebars are both lower and narrower.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                1. The safety functions of the V4 Pikes Peak include cornering ABS, radar-based adaptive cruise control and blind spot detection. <\/strong>Everything is controlled via the 6.5 inch TFT dash that is connected to your smartphone.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                  1. You can have the Pikes Peak in any paint scheme you want, as long as it is Pikes Peak. <\/strong>As you can see, this is red and black, inspired by the GP21 MotoGP motorcycle that was ridden by Pecco Bagnaia and Jack Miller.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
