Fly Racing offers two lines of women-specific moto gear – the Women’s Lite Racewear for the serious rider \/ racer and the F-16 Racewear for the average trail rider looking for durable, comfortable value for their weekend moto adventures . There are distinct differences between the two lines, and I’m focusing on the Fly Racing Women’s F-16 racewear line here.<\/p>\n
The F-16 Racewear is more robust than the Lite Racewear, has a slightly more spacious fit and does not let in as much air. It’s a polished basic workhorse design that looks great and takes care of business without looking for a budget.<\/p>\n
The breeches are made of durable 600D polyester and withstand normal trail riding abuse. In southern California, riding in the desert or mountains means snagging scruffy trees and chaparral, and occasionally tipping over in a rock garden. In contrast, the silky feel of the Lite Racewear is more performance-oriented; It is built for rubbing rods, not branches, on the racetrack.<\/p>\n In keeping with their rather provincial role, the F-16 breeches have a relaxed fit. It’s not baggy, but not to be confused with the curvy cut of the Lite Racewear pants. The F-16s are still flatter; they are well designed and functional.<\/p>\n When I put on new breeches, the first thing I notice is how they hold my knee braces. The F-16s have the space they need to slide easily over my Pod K-4 brackets. The mesh liner, which keeps the pants cool and prevents them from sticking to sweaty legs, extends from the waist to the back of the knees, but not beyond. This is important because full mesh liners inevitably get stuck on knee braces, making it difficult to put on and take off your trousers.<\/p>\n Due to the slightly curved cut, the Fly Racing Women’s F-16 pants feel just right when sitting or standing. There is no excess fabric bundling around the knees. Generous stretch inserts on the inside and outside of the thigh as well as the hollow of the knee up to the calf to the cuffs prevent pinching. The cuff is a simple flat seam that does not interfere with blood flow; a 5.2 cm wide stretch panel ensures a little fit. Finally, stretch ribs along the lower back waist and above the back of the knees ensure that all movement on the bike is free from restrictions.<\/p>\n In contrast to the fashionable and flyless Lite pants, the F-16 pants have a traditional fly that covers the sturdy and larger toothed YKK zipper. A standard ratchet buckle secures the waist and you can adjust the fit with the Velcro adjustable on the left. Two ventilation panels on the knee – one above the top, the other behind the knee – let some air flow.<\/p>\n Like the pants, the women’s F-16 jersey has a fit that offers serious protection. The light polyester fabric has enough stretch that I can pull it over my Alpinestars Stella Bionic Jacket 2 without any effort. I have to be a little more careful with the sleeves, as the padded elbows of the Bionic Jacket cannot be neglected.<\/p>\n The Fly Racing Women’s F-16 jersey has a long tail that fits well into the pants and is prevented from sliding up by the silicone-lined waistband. A 2 x 3 inch label sewn into the side seam of the jersey – low enough to be stowed in the pants – provides the usual care instructions and fabric content in five languages.<\/p>\n Inconsistent, the written instructions say hand wash or delicate cycle, while the international symbols indicate a normal cold cycle. It’s moto gear, so I’ll go for the latter – machine wash in the cold and hang to dry. Fortunately, there is no scratchy label on the back collar of the jersey; The size and model number are simply printed directly on the fabric.<\/p>\n The F-16 gloves strike a nice balance between lightweight comfort and basic protection. The palm of the glove is made of thin synthetic leather with a series of silicone nubs on the two fingers that you use on your hand levers. They offer a perfect, non-slip grip. The top of the glove is made of spandex, and neoprene lycra<\/a> Combination that is satisfactorily flexible with a secure fit.<\/p>\n The Fly Racing F-16 gloves don’t offer significant impact protection, so steer clear of chaparral and cactus if you don’t have hand protection. An additional layer of synthetic material, where the thumb grips the handlebars, protects against blisters, and there is an adjustable Velcro fastener on the cuff for attaching the gloves. Despite the unisex size of the gloves, the women’s XL \/ men’s M fit my large hands perfectly.<\/p>\n With the Women’s F-16 Racewear, Fly Racing delivers great-looking, functional and durable moto equipment.
