Pirelli<\/strong><\/a> <\/strong>Tire North America congratulates the Army of Darkness (AoD) racing team of Chris Peris and Ben Walters on achieving the WERA \/ N2 endurance victory at Summit Point Raceway and their 17th birthdayNS<\/sup> national endurance championship. The AoD Yamaha YZF-R1 relied on the performance of Pirelli’s DIABLO Superbike 125 \/ 70R-17 SC2 front and 200 \/ 65R-17 SC1 rear slicks to take the race win and take the heavyweight and overall championships for season four secure in a row.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“Endurance racing definitely makes the most of many variables together to give the team the best chance of winning in the long run,” said Oscar Solis, Senior Racing Manager, Pirelli. \u201cArmy of Darkness has done this both on and off the track this year. We applaud them for their tenacity. This proves Pirelli not only to be a great tire for a single race, but also for four hours of endurance. It was great to work with the team to secure the championship. “<\/p>\n

Peris managed to set an incredible time in qualifying in which he took pole position 1.5 seconds behind his closest competitor. Peris went on to do the fastest laps in the race and was helped by the strong, steady laps of his teammate Walters and the team’s quick pit stops, which made it too much for their competition to overcome.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere have been 18 WERA \/ N2 endurance races in the last four years and I had the privilege of being part of AoD, winning 13 of them,\u201d said Walters. \u201cThousands of things can go wrong with the bike, the track or any other competitor, and then we have to put a fast platform on the track and turn the lap times and after all that we still have perfect pit stops. If you had told me at the beginning of 2018 that we would win over 70 percent of the races in the future, I would not have believed it. We had very tough competition every year, but the luck of the race smiles at us and we move on to the rally in the late season to win the championships. It’s like a storybook that ends every year! “<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
