Thieves went ‘shopping’ in the Gympie region during May, looking to nab themselves some light-fingered discounts.<\/p>\n
Several motor vehicles including motorbikes, trailers, a caravan, tip truck and boat were reported as stolen from Gympie and surrounding areas last month.<\/p>\n
Police are currently investigating several recent stolen vehicles and in some cases, victims were their own worst enemies, as vehicles were left unlocked, with keys in the vehicle or with keys left in the ignition.<\/p>\n
Overnight on Saturday, April 30 two off-road motorcycles were stolen from the back of a utility which was parked at an address on Wises Road, Gympie. <\/p>\n
One of the bikes has been located, however the other, described as black, and green, is still outstanding.<\/p>\n
Very early the following Monday, a car parked on Turana St, Rainbow Beach was stolen at about 5.45am.<\/p>\n
It was located two days later. <\/p>\n
Overnight on Wednesday, May 4, thieves broke into a secure yard area and stole a trailer from an address on Flood Road, East Deep Creek. <\/p>\n
The trailer has Queensland registration 629 UNB.<\/p>\n
The following weekend, between 12.30pm, Saturday, 7 May and 5.25am, Monday, 9 May, a construction site office on Noosa Road, Mothar Mountain was broken into.<\/p>\n
Thieves then drove off in a stolen white 2019 Toyota LandCruiser ute with registration PDS 01.<\/p>\n
Around 5.20pm that same Monday, a shed at a residence on Penny Road, East Deep Creek was illegally entered, and vehicle was stolen but recovered the next day.<\/p>\n
Sometime during the week between 5pm Saturday, 21 May and 7am Monday, 30 May, a secure yard on Railway Court, Glanmire was broken into and a 2007 Jayco Sterling caravan was stolen. The caravan has Queensland registration 365 QPR. <\/p>\n
Thieves took a 1973 Cruise Craft boat (rego BCC 82Q) and the trailer it was on (rego FF 7651) from a carpark near the One Mile Ovals on Crescent Road sometime between midnight on Wednesday, 25 May and 10am on Monday, 30 May.<\/p>\n
A vehicle parked in a driveway at Brahman Court, Chatsworth was stolen overnight on Thursday 26 May, but recovered later on Friday.<\/p>\n
Thieves entered the carport of an address on Old Maryborough Rd close just before midnight on Friday, 27 May and stole a 2002 black Suzuki GSF1200 motorcycle with registration 909IU.<\/p>\n
The following morning, between 6 and 9am, thieves took a car from an address at Kiaka Road, Lagoon Pocket. It was located later the same day. <\/p>\n
On Monday, 30 May, sometime between 5.30am and 8.40pm a residence on a rural property on Gresham Road, Kybong was broken into and the keys to a silver 2007 Nissan Patrol station wagon bearing Queensland registration V8P35T, along with the car itself, was stole.<\/p>\n
Police are also seeking information about a break in at a business on Violet Street, Gympie which was broken into overnight on Tuesday, 31 May. <\/p>\n
A blue 2009 Ford Ranger dual cab (rego CTB09) was stolen along with a white 2019 Isuzu tip truck with Queensland (rego CTB37). Milwaukee power tools were also stolen. <\/p>\n
Gympie Police are reminding residents that most car thefts are opportunistic and there are a number of things residents can do to reduce the risk of having their car stolen or broken into:<\/p>\n
* Park your vehicle in well-lit and highly visible areas whenever possible,<\/p>\n
* When parking in a garage, ensure both the garage and vehicle are locked and the garage door remotes are secured,<\/p>\n
* Consider installing a car alarm or steering wheel lock to help protect your vehicle,<\/p>\n
* Consider installing a remote engine immobilizer which meets Australian Standards,<\/p>\n
* Always lock your vehicle, including the canopy, boot, and sunroof and remember to fully close all windows,<\/p>\n
* Half of all vehicles stolen use the keys so always keep your keys out of sight and never leave vehicle keys lying around on tables, benches, bedside tables, or key hooks,<\/p>\n
* Always take your vehicle keys with you whenever you are going out, even if you are leaving your vehicle at home.<\/p>\n
Should you witness any suspicious activity around residential, business, rural or construction site areas at any time of day, please report the details to police.<\/p>\n
