Spanish motorcycle customization shop Cafe Racer Dreams has built a lot of bikes, but one recent creation paying homage to legendary Castilian bike maker Bultaco has definitely caught our eye.
CRD calls the machine”CRD128” but the unusual bike is a tribute to the 1977 Bultaco Frontera Gold Medal 370 (below), itself a tribute to the winning off-road Bultacos of the 1960s and 1970s. Bultaco produced mostly dual-sport (then called “enduros”) motorcycles, but also race bikes, from 1958 to 1983.

Among other wins, Bultaco machines were victorious at the Scottish Six Days trials competitions in 1965, 1967 and 1968. Fun fact: Ex-MotoGP racer Sete Gibernau is the grandson of the founder of Bultaco and raced with Bultaco’s iconic “thumbs up” logo on the back of his helmet. The CRD bike includes the logo on the gas cap.

The Bultaco brand was revived in 2014 as an “ebike” maker but the machines are clearly thinly-veiled electric off-road motorcycles with pedals.
While the original Frontera was a 2-stroke single, the CRD128 custom is based on a 1983 BMW R80T airhead boxer that’s been stripped of a claimed 100kg (over 200 pounds) of unneeded bits and wears an authentic Gold Medal gas tank and bug screen.
CRD says they rebuilt the Bultaco Boxer from the ground up and added some nice touches including a pair of stubby Supertrapp exhausts, modern Tokico brakes on the stock front rim, and even gold coloring for the dual Bing mixers. CRD calls the bike a “street tracker” in their description but it also has a bit of café flavor and enduro bits as well, and commenters and CRD get into some tiffs about that on the bike’s Facebook post.
