Two Gainesville men were recently booked for allegedly stealing two dirt bikes from a Dawson County residence.
Christopher Shannon Kirkpatrick, 33, and Mitchell Raymond Kirkpatrick, 35, were both arrested by the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, October 15, and charged with trespassing and one for takeaway theft, respectively.
The alleged theft occurred between August 29 at 11 p.m. and the next morning at 8 a.m. in a house away from Ga. 53. DCSO responded shortly after 10 a.m. at the victims’ home on August 30.
The two ventured onto the owner’s property without their permission and then stole the two dirt bikes that were parked in the driveway next to the garage according to the relevant arrest warrants.
These warrants describe the first motorcycle as a red and white Honda CRF 100, a mid-size dirt bike with a torn seat and a front license plate “# 69” valued at $ 1,300.
The second bike was a green and white Kawasaki KLX 140, also a mid-size dirt bike valued at $ 2,100. It had neon pink handlebar grips, no chain cover and a new rear tire.
Both are said to have put the dirt bikes on the back of Christopher’s truck before they left the site.
About two weeks later, on September 12, the arrest warrants said pictures of the Kawasaki motorcycle appeared on the North GA Cars $ 1,500 or Less Facebook group, where the motorcycle is for sale. Mitchell was named as the contact person in the post.
One of the victims identified the Kawasaki bike as his own by recognizing its stickers, handlebar grips, curved front right “fork”, and misaligned front fender with the front tire.
After recognizing the bike, the man contacted the authorities. DCSO prepared arrest warrants dated September 24th and carried out on October 15th.
The bond for both men was set at $ 1,300.
