Honda’s Africa Twin has a new look and more changes for 2022

Honda is the latest manufacturer to bring some new offerings to the motorcycle world as it unveiled a new look for the Africa Twin and Africa Twin Adventure Sports ahead of 2022, along with a number of minor changes that optimize the already pre-eminent performance of Adventure bikes.

With summer in the rearview mirror, it’s the time of year for manufacturers to show off their new motorcycles, and the Japanese manufacturer has joined the party by repainting the two models and adding a few new features – be buyers .

These looks come first. Both the all-terrain CRF1100L Africa twin and the tour ready Adventure sports Models have been given a new coat of paint.

The Adventure Sports comes with what Honda calls a “cracked terrain” color scheme with black aluminum details instead of silver from the previous model, although it still looks pretty similar. However, the standard Africa Twin looks completely different with a flashy, colorful ‘Africa Twin’ logo that won me over and looks damn cool.

The new looks aren’t everything either. The standard Africa Twin is now equipped as standard with an aluminum rear rack, which is ideal for attaching roller bags and luggage to the bike on tour, while the Adventure Sports has received a new, shorter disc. It’s 110mm lower than the previous model but still offers five levels of adjustment and Honda claims it won’t affect weather resistance in the saddle (we reserve the right to judge until we ride it).

This change shows that the Japanese manufacturer has listened to the drivers. For taller riders, like me at six feet, the previous adventure sports screen isn’t a problem, but I heard smaller riders complain that they obstructed their view of the road ahead, especially when it got dirty or rain fell. However, it is a shame to see that the dull screen still remains on the standard Africa Twin, which could have used a little more height for better weather protection when touring on the asphalt.

Finally, there have also been some changes to Honda’s dual clutch transmission (DCT). Honda says optimizations to first and second gear were developed to provide a smoother ride at lower speeds and from a standing start.

We expect the new (ish) bikes to arrive at dealerships around Christmas time, and we can’t wait to test the new look in the flesh.
