Honda unveils project vehicle for rugged roads

The new, redesigned 2022 Passport features more aggressive sheet metal from the A-pillars to the front, including a distinctive runner fairing and a new rear bumper with larger twin exhaust ports. The new exterior design gives the Passport a more rugged look that better suits its current off-road capabilities.

In addition to the new design, the 2022 Passport is the first Honda to receive the TrailSport treatment, which includes a unique grille, orange interior accents, machined 18-inch wheels and unique sidewall-tread tires for a tougher look. TrailSport is the new Halo for Honda Light Trucks that further enhances their built-in off-road capability, versatility and durability with exclusive designs inside and out.

In the next model years, the off-road capabilities of the TrailSport models will increase depending on the model. Possible future upgrades include more aggressive tires, full-size replacement tires, wider use of increased ground clearance, tuned off-road suspensions, underbody protection and advanced all-wheel drive features.

Passport TrailSport Rugged Roads Project

Built with seasoned overlanders and Honda Passport enthusiasts Jon Tuico, the popular YouTube channel JonDZ Adventuring, will be the vehicle of the Passport TrailSport Rugged Roads Project at Overland Expo West in. debut Flagstaff, Ariz. from 24.-26. Sept.

With the new 2022 Passport TrailSport as the starting point, the Rugged Roads Project vehicle will be equipped with additional off-road-oriented components to further improve its cross-country capabilities. The ready-to-run Rugged Roads Project vehicle comes with Genuine Honda Accessories, a Jsport suspension lift kit for more ground clearance, and rugged Firestone Destination A / T2 all-terrain tires for improved off-road traction without the superb road of the Passport affecting manners and customs.

The recovery points specially developed and manufactured by Honda R&D are painted TrailSport orange and thick stainless steel underrun protection plates protect the oil pan and the fuel tank of the SUV from stones and other hazards in the field. A lower door brush set protects his body parts.

Roof bars and a Dirt Complex trailer hitch tire carrier ensure robust functionality and expand freight transport. Flared fenders, special 18-inch wheels and black Honda badges make the Rugged Roads Project vehicle ready for the toughest terrain. To make the overnight excursions even more comfortable, a roof tent Sparrow XL from Roofnest was added.

Brand new passport 2022 TrailSport

Honda has provided weekend adventurers with durable, high-performance light trucks for more than two decades. TrailSport’s more aggressive, rugged design, inside and out, now shows the true off-road capabilities of the brand’s lightweight trucks. With a standard 280 hp 3.5-liter V6 engine, 9-speed automatic transmission and Honda’s best-in-class i-VTM4^® Torque-vectoring all-wheel drive system, the 2022 Honda Passport TrailSport exceeds the off-road demands of most light commercial vehicle buyers while delivering great on-road dynamics.

The very first Passport TrailSport features an exclusive exterior styling, including a unique grille treatment, more aggressive front and rear bumpers with underrun protection designs, and new machined 18-inch wheels with pewter-colored accents. The unique design of the 245 / 60R18 tires has a sidewall profile for a tougher look.

Inspired by the beauty of nature and the spirit of discovery, the design of the new TrailSport logo also expresses enthusiasm for outdoor adventures. Orange on black TrailSport emblem adorn the grille and tailgate of the SUV, while the Passport and AWD emblems are painted in glossy black instead of the chrome surface used on the rest of the product range.

In the cabin, TrailSport is characterized by orange-colored contrasting stitching on the steering wheel, door panels and seats, the TrailSport logo is embroidered on the headrests of the front seats and molded onto the standard all-season rubber floor mats. At night, the interior has exclusive amber ambient lighting in the footwells, the overhead console, the door handle pocket, the door shelf and the cup holders.

Honda Ridgeline HPD Trail Tour project vehicle

Overland Expo attendees will also witness the debut of the Ridgeline HPD Trail Tour Project Vehicle, another custom-made Honda product that is fully equipped for cross-country driving. Based on a production Honda Ridgeline 2021 with optional HPD package, the pickup project with bed and roof accessories from Thule, including a Tepui Kukenam 3 roof tent and a custom-made spare tire carrier from Jsport, is ready for adventure. The off-road capability of the Ridgeline HPD Trail Tour Project Vehicle is further enhanced with stainless steel recovery points and underbody protection plates specially designed and manufactured by Honda R&D, a Jsport Suspension Lift Kit and Firestone Destination A / T2 all-terrain tires.

Honda will also display a collection of its powersports and power equipment products that support the overlander lifestyle, including award-winning Honda off-road motorcycles, side-by-side motorcycles and generators.
