The American motorcycle equipment manufacturer Klim has earned a reputation as a manufacturer of high-quality premium clothing for adventure bikers who want to explore the world on two wheels.
After wearing the brand’s excellent Kodiak touring suit for six months, I can safely say that Klim lives up to its reputation, which is why I couldn’t wait to get my hands on his new Adventure GTX boots.
Klim Adventure GTX boots
With boots in hand, it is immediately clear that there is a lot that can make avid adventure bikers drool.
The first impression is good. The Adventure GTX has a rugged and aggressive look and is available in both a stealthy black design and a lighter hi-vis color for a little bit of visibility in the saddle.
Weather protection and impregnation come from one of the biggest names in the industry, GORE-TEX, and extend well over the entire boot. This means that it offers a lot of protection during rainy rides while keeping your feet dry at the same time Water crossings and wade through marshy puddles.
Another big name pops up on the bottom of the boots, with tire giant Michelin sharing its know-how to design the chunky, grippy rubber sole. The deep, multi-directional lugs are perfect for finding traction both on asphalt and when the green lanes get slippery and muddy this winter.
When it comes to protecting your feet, the polycarbonate last board that runs along the sole ensures that there are no sideways or up and down movements when under load. There’s also a reinforced shin plate, toe box, and ankle area, as well as shock foam on the ankle and top of the foot to absorb big blows and protect your feet.
It’s comforting to see this dedication to protection, especially since the bruises are only starting to fade after I recently dropped an Africa Twin on my foot while wearing another pair of boots. I still wish the Adventure GTX boots arrived in the mail a few weeks earlier.
All day comfort
Klim packed the Adventure GTX boots full of protection, but also made sure that they are comfortable to wear throughout the day. Flex zones on the Achilles tendon and calf make it comfortable enough to walk around from the bike, and there is also an antimicrobial gel sockliner to keep things relatively odor-free. We’re not talking about the comfort of a trainer here, but it’s very good for an adventure boat.
Finally, three locking systems ensure a firm, supportive fit. There is a plastic ankle buckle protected by a plastic deflector, Velcro at the top, and a Boa-Fit system that skiers and snowboarders may be familiar with.
Of the three, I’m a particular fan of the Boa system that you can see in the picture above. It offers a tighter fit compared to designs that only use buckles or Velcro.
So the Adventure GTX is a great adventure boat that I would love to take with me on tour, but you just don’t pay for that quality. In fact, at £ 450 for a pair, they’re one of the most expensive boots on the market right now, but it’s a price I’d be willing to pay for the combination of comfort, protection, and good looks that offer.
