Patent images suggest a production model of Yamaha’s rally-ready prototype Ténéré 700 Raid, unveiled to much fanfare at the EICMA motorcycle show in November 2021, could be on the way.
The new images have given us a glimpse of what the Raid will look like when it hits showrooms in the near future, and they’re sure to get adventure bikers seriously excited.
There are a few changes from the highly advanced, dune-conquering prototype unveiled at EICMA. Instead, it looks like Yamaha is turning the Raid into a long-distance, continent-shattering adventure bike, you think BMW’s F 850 GS Adventure.
Here’s what we know so far.
Yamaha Tenere 700 Raid
The patent images show that the dual-fuel tanks present on the prototype, each with its own tank cap, have been retained. However, on the prototype, these were split between the front and rear of the bike, with one bolted to the subframe, while on the production model, both are in the front.
It’s the clearest indication that Yamaha hopes to turn the new Ténéré 70o Raid into a true mileage hog, something the current model, which uses just 16 liters of fuel, is somewhat lacking.
These tanks are significantly wider and extend downwards to keep the center of gravity low and together we reckon they will hold over 20L of fuel on a full tank, hopefully providing a range of well over 250 miles.
Ready for the hard stuff
The keen eyes will also spot some pretty substantial built-in crash protection in the patent images.
There are fairing protectors to protect those twin tanks and a mammoth bash plate, suggesting the new Raid will continue to focus on tackling the rough stuff during rides. There’s also a rally-style extended seat that goes all the way up to the tank.
The patent images also seem to indicate an update to the Ténéré’s display. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for a new TFT to replace the current model’s slightly dated Gameboy-like LCD screen.
Aside from these changes, much of the Ténéré 700 Raid appears to have stayed the same from the current model. And why should you change a recipe for success?

There’s no word yet on when the models will hit showrooms or how much they’ll set you back.
