An uninsured and unauthorized motorcyclist was caught by the police after colliding head-on with a motorcyclist on a residential street.
Craig Watson, 33 years old, was driving down Skegby Road in Kirkby-in-Ashfield when the collision occurred on the evening of Sunday 19 July 2020.
Watson, who broke an ankle in the accident, had previously ridden up and down the street on his Suzuki off-road motorcycle.
The crash occurred when he was approaching the other motorcycle head-on and evaded too late to avoid a collision.
He later admitted to police that he was not licensed to ride a motorcycle and had no insurance.
Watson of Thorneywood Avenue, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, later pleaded guilty to driving without care and attention, without insurance, and without a license.
When he appeared before Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, he was sentenced to a fine of £ 1,000 plus eight penalty points. He was also sentenced to pay a cost of £ 85 plus an additional £ 100 sacrificial surcharge.
Nottinghamshire Police Department PC Joel Hughes said: “Watson was fully aware that he had no right to ride this bike on the road, but he did – and used it in ways that put other road users at risk.
“People who illegally drive off-road motorcycles on our streets cause considerable noise nuisance for local residents and put themselves in danger.
“We will not tolerate such behavior and will continue our efforts to punish people who ride bikes where they shouldn’t. Criminals can expect their bikes to be confiscated and possibly destroyed if they continue to break the law in this way. “
