the Michelin The racing tire line turns 20 this year and Michelin is celebrating with the new Michelin Road 6 and Road 6 GT tires for sport touring. We’re big fans of the Street 5, so the new 6 catches our attention. Let’s go through what’s new.
- Michelin claims that the Road 6 has improved wet grip and tire wear compared to the 5. In figures, this means 15 percent more wet grip and a 10 percent longer service life for the profile. According to Michelin, this is achieved without reducing dry grip or impairing driving characteristics. The stability should also be improved.
- The Road 6 has a new tread pattern that directs water away from the tire. The Michelin X-Sipe technology for the tread pattern is combined with the Michelin Water Evergrip technology, which ensures that the tire works perfectly even after considerable wear and tear in the wet.
- New blends also contribute to improved wet performance. Michelin calls it Silica Rain Technology. Like the new tread design, it is designed to improve the tire’s rain performance throughout its lifespan.
- The Road 6 receives 2CT + technology from Michelin, which was previously exclusive to rear tires. According to Michelin, this improves the rigidity in corners, even with heavy braking or aggressive acceleration.
- The Road 6 GT is characterized by an additional layer in the tire. Michelin calls it Reinforced Radial-X Evo Technology (formerly Michelin 2AT Technology) and makes the GT a souped-up version of the Road 6 that can handle heavier motorcycles. The standard Road 6 uses Michelin Radial-X technology.
- The appearance of the new Road 6 is an upgrade. Okay, we all want our motorcycles to look good, so we can’t complain that Michelin puts research and development into the shape of its tires and into how they function. Michelin loves to name its technology and they even have a name for it. “Michelin Premium Touch Technology is used in the design of the side walls, a feature that comes from ultra-high-performance tires for sports cars,” said a spokesman. “This exclusive technology uses micro-geometry on the sidewalls to create a texture that in turn allows the contrast to be modulated and gray tones to accentuate the tire markings and create an attractive finish.”
- The new Michelin Road 6 is available in a variety of sizes including two 19-inch front tires for ADV-style sport touring motorcycles. There are six tire sizes for the front tires and eight for the rear tires. All rear tires are 17-inch with widths from 140mm to 190mm. The Road 6 GT only offers one front tire size – 120/70. The GT rear triangles are the bold options – 180/55, 190/50 and 190/55.
- We usually don’t get an RRP for tires, as these are often greatly reduced at the point of sale. Prices range from $ 171 for the 110/70 x 17 front to $ 369 for the Road 6 GT 190/55 x 17 in the rear.
