Aprilia is one of those names that is easily recognizable in the world of motorcycles and scooters. It currently offers a range of street, dual sport, and off-road motorcycles, as well as a range of scooters. Interesting, the company started out as a bicycle manufacturer, but likely soon found motorcycles more profitable to build and sell.
To spice up its reputation and increase the references of its offering, Aprilia got into various motorcycle sports around the world. The company has been victorious so far and has won major championships. As part of the Piaggio Group, Aprilia continued its winning streak and became one of the most successful brands in motorcycle racing history.
Nevertheless, Aprilia is primarily focused on building top of the line motorcycles and scooters for its customers. Aprilia presented its latest range of scooters at the recently concluded EICMA (Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo Motociclo e Accessori or the Milan Motorcycle Fair). According to the company, the new Aprilia SR GT is an urban adventure scooter that could take you anywhere.
At home in both urban and distant areas
Aprilia calls the SR GT its first “Urban Adventure” scooter. It’s not that fastest Aprilia in the area, but it’s a compact GT scooter that is a fun everyday ride in the city. But that’s not all. The SR GT is equipped with equipment inspired by the Enduro world to ensure that it can drive over long distances and even less traveled paths.
The SR GT is the newest member of the Aprilia Urban Mobility range, which already includes the eSR1 and eSR2 electric scooters and the Aprilia SXR 50. It is available in two power versions that are operated by two different motors – the SR GT125 and the SR GT 200 – complete with a start & stop system that makes a conventional starter superfluous. The scooter is also offered in sports equipment (SR GT Sport) with sports-oriented graphics and surfaces.
The SR GT 125 has a 125 cc i-get single cylinder engine that delivers 14.7 horsepower maximum power at 8,750 rpm and a maximum torque of approximately 9 lb-ft at 6,500 rpm. On the flip side, the SR GT 200 is equipped with a 174 cc engine that delivers a maximum power of 17.4 hp at 8,500 rpm and a maximum torque of more than 12 lb-ft at 7,000 rpm. The larger engine has an aluminum cylinder with a Nikasil coating, a new piston with updated crown geometry and a new head. With these engines the SR GT is not the slowest Aprilia You can ride.
In conjunction with CVTs with a larger clutch, both engines of the i-get family are Euro 5-approved units with electronic injection, four valves and liquid cooling.
Suspension for control and driving pleasure
So that the new SR GT is unstoppable in the city and yet always ready for adventure, Aprilia combined a double weighing frame made of high-strength steel tubes with long stroke suspension. At the front, the SR GT has a Showa fork with 122 mm of travel. At the rear, the SR GT has two double-acting Showa shock absorbers with coil springs for 102 mm of travel. With this configuration, the SR GT offers exceptional control, comfort and safety on uneven surfaces without compromising driving pleasure.
In contrast to conventional compact GT scooters, the Aprilia SR GT sits relatively high above the ground and offers a minimum clearance of 175 mm. In this way, the scooter can easily negotiate bumps or descend from any height. The all-terrain tires with a slightly gnarled profile also contribute to the versatility of the SR GT.
A lightweight urban adventure scooter with a long range
In terms of weight, the new Aprilia SR GT is quite light, with the SR GT 125 weighing in at only 144 kg and the SR GT 200 weighing in at 148 kg. Both versions of the SR GT run on alloy wheels that measure 14 inches at the front and 13 inches at the rear. They are shod with wide cross-section rubbers that measure 110/80 at the front and 130/70 at the back.
For the braking power, the Aprilia SR GT uses a 260 mm leaf blade front disk for better heat dissipation and a 220 mm disk at the rear (petal-shaped on the SR GT 200 and 125 Sport). The SR GT 125 and the SRT 200 can drive (WMTC cycle) up to 40 km / liter and 38.5 km / liter respectively. Since each model is equipped with a nine-liter fuel tank, long-distance driving would not be a problem.
Compared to a conventional compact GT scooter, the Aprilia SR GT offers a less rearward-facing, more active driving position. Thanks to an ergonomic footrest, the driver can adopt a position that enables a more relaxed driving style that would be suitable for long-distance journeys.
Loaded with various urban adventure elements
Other features of the new Aprilia GT include a 25-liter underbody compartment, an optional 33-liter aluminum topcase, a full LED rear light with indicators, a full LED front light with three elements, a suspended windshield, a wide bare handlebars and a large LCD display for instrumentation.
The new Aprilia SR GT is available in Aprilia Black, Street Gray and Infinity Blue, complemented by silver-gray footrests, side and passenger grab handles as well as black wheels and a black saddle with gray stitching. The sport version is available in the matt color schemes Street Gold, Iridium Gray and Red Raceway, complemented by red painted wheels and a two-tone black and gray saddle with red stitching.
