2022 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S first look [19 Fast Facts]
We have a . made available a quick look at this motorcycle back in February. It debuted as a 2021 model in Europe, and after an excruciating wait here in the US, the new 2022 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S is here. The S stands for street, because this ADV has a sport touring focus. However, being a KTM, it has some built-in off-road capabilities. We have more to tell you than we did at the beginning of the year, so let’s start over.
- The 1301cc V-Twin may appear unchanged, but looks can be deceiving. KTM has saved 3.5 pounds from the LC8 engine by using thinner engine housings, and exhausted gases are being expelled through new collectors. In addition, a new cooling system with two coolers helps to keep both cylinders at the optimal operating temperature.
- The Pankl transmission receives upgrades, including bronze-coated shift forks that are designed to enhance the action of the optional Quickshifter. Because when you use the clutch, the new clutch plates are said to have superior low-speed disengagement.
- The 2022 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S has a new chassis including frame and swing arm. On the grid chromoly frame, the steering head retracts over half an inch and there are new motor mounts. The result is a rake that is 1.3 to 24.7 degrees inclined compared to the previous S. The aluminum subframe is new, as is the longer swing arm. According to KTM insiders, the frame changes optimize “the weight distribution for more agility and comfort”, while the swing arm “contributes to better straight-line stability when accelerating”.
- The semi-active WP Apex chassis has been upgraded. There are three presets – Sport, Street, and Comfort – and a hydraulic spring preload adjustment for the shock absorber that offers 10 settings on a three-quarter inch. If that’s not enough, there are three optional modes (Offroad, Auto and Advanced) and three automatic leveling settings (High, Standard, Low). In addition, the semi-active suspension adapts to the conditions more quickly. The suspension travel is a hair under eight inches for both wheels.
- In addition to the suspension settings, there are IMU-supported driving modes. Sport, Street, Offroad and Rain are standard on the 1290 Adventure S, optionally with rally mode, with which you can choose between nine levels of traction control.
- Offroad ABS allows the rear wheel to skid. The front ABS is always on, which we don’t mind. The entire ABS system will be upgraded to Bosch 10.3ME.
- Bosch’s radar-assisted cruise control is standard. The cruise control automatically keeps you at a selected distance – there are five settings – from the vehicle in front.
- The radar unit is hidden under a new, wide-beam LED headlight.
- A new 7-inch TFT display helps the driver to keep track of the driver assistance selection. In addition, the switchgear is new to make the software easier to use.
- The 19/17-inch wheel combination is now shod with Mitas Terra-Force R rubber. These tires have a 90/10 road / dirt grade according to Mitas.
- The body is new. The airflow was developed to keep the heated air from the new radiators away from the driver.
- The 2022 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S has a new, lower seat. The low position is now 33.4 inches – half an inch lower than last year – and the high seating position is just under a quarter of an inch lower. The seat is also designed for easier driver movement and works in conjunction with the new 6.1 gallon fuel tank.
- Touring riders will like the new windshield, which has an adjustment range of over five centimeters.
- There is a new aluminum stand. According to KTM, the new stand is lighter, more user-friendly and looks better.
- There are three optional packages for the 2022 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S. The Rally Pack adds rally driving mode, traction control adjustability and customizable throttle response. Suspension Pro adds off-road, auto and advanced presets, allows fork and damper to be set independently, offers automatic spring preload adjustment and anti-dive adjustment. Upgrade to the Tech Pack and you will get the Rally Pack and Suspension Pro functions as well as a quickshifter, an adjustment of the engine pressure step brake and a hill start aid.
- Touring case and a tank bag are factory options. The cases are made of aluminum and plastic and have a total volume of 70 liters. The tank bag includes a rain cover and a carrying bag as well as a magnetic attachment.
- A titanium Akrapovič muffler with a carbon fiber end cap slips right on top. It’s easier and legal in 50 states.
- There are two color schemes, and both include orange and gray.
- We’re sorry, but we don’t have a price or an arrival date for the 2022 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S. We can tell you we can’t wait to ride it.
