Residents next to Hylton Road Playing Fields woke up Saturday morning, October 16, to see the damage done by at least one mindless biker overnight.
There are three grass pitches on the site. One of them was played on dangerously after a bicycle left tire tracks in the form of small ditches. The other two parking spaces remained untouched.
There is an ongoing anti-social behavior problem in Sunderland with quads and off-road motorcycles.
The force’s police and crime inspector, Kim McGuinness, has called on the government to introduce new laws to crack down on renegade riders. She wants all motorcycles to have trackers to monitor their speed and position.
Sunderland City Council says they take the issue very seriously as well.
Council President Graeme Miller said: “It is always disappointing when people do this.
“The city council and our partners are very aware of the problems that some bikers and motorcyclists cause.
“Last year there were 29 community protection warnings and a community protection notice against anti-social motorcyclists, and four people reported to their employer for using utility vehicles to transport all-terrain vehicles around town.
“This work against unsocial motorcyclists continues and we ask residents to report any problems as the information they provide can help us take positive action.
“We understand that standing up and reporting anti-social behavior can be daunting for residents, but they can do so with complete confidence and with their help we can continue to make communities safer and prevent incidents like this one.”
