The family tree of the Triumph Tiger 1200 2022 is divided into two branches. We told you about the off-road focused 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 rally models. Now is the time to focus on the three street-facing 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 GT ranges – the GT, GT Pro and GT Explorer. Although the three GTs share the same basic chassis and engine, there are differences. Let’s take a look at what each Tiger 1200 GT has to offer.

2022 Triumph Tiger GT Lineup First Look: Prices

  1. All three models receive the new T-Plane Triple with its uneven firing sequence. The power peaks are impressive – 147 horsepower at 9,000 rpm and 96 ft-lbs of torque at 7,000 rpm. That’s eight horsepower more than the previous Tiger 1200 engine. The power is transmitted to the rear wheel via a lighter cardan drive. The firing sequence offers a short gap and two long gaps, resulting in improved low-rev performance and a distinctive feel.
  1. The chassis is also new – lighter and narrower than before. There’s a new frame that’s nearly 12 pounds lighter and has a bolt-on aluminum subframe that accepts passenger mounts. The link arm is another three pounds lighter.

  1. The suspension is courtesy of Showa. All three GTs have semi-active suspension. The bike path drops below 20 inches at each end – about 3/4 of an inch shorter than the rally suspension. This helps to enable a seat height that is centimeters lower for the GTs. The GTs have a design with two seat heights. There’s also an optional low seat that’s an additional 3/4 in. Lower.
  1. Cast aluminum wheels have Metzeler Tourance rubber. The 19/18-inch wheel pairing is somewhat unusual, but still allows for a good selection of tires.

  1. Braking is top notch thanks to Brembo M4.30 Stylema calipers that work on floating 320mm discs. Magura takes care of the radial master brake cylinder, which has a separate reservoir and is adjustable.
  1. There is an abundance of driver aids and they are one of the distinguishing features between the GT variants. The GT Pro and the GT Explorer have a quickshifter, curve-going lighting and mountain steering – everything is missing from the standard GT. Only the GT Explorer gets a radar system for blind spots, tire pressure monitoring and seat and grip heating. All three GTs have a 7-inch TFT with Bluetooth connectivity to your smartphone, curve-going traction control, keyless operation (ignition, fuel cap and steering lock). A Triumph Sena Bluetooth intercom with Harman Kardon sound is optionally available.
